SKU: Neutron-X Detector Category:

Description

The Maximus Energy 3He Neutron-X Detector is highly sensitive to thermal neutrons and an excellent choice for professional researchers and enthusiasts alike. Helium-3-filled proportional counters exhibit the highest sensitivity to thermal neutrons among all neutron detector classes, making them indispensable for surveying, reactor monitoring, and nuclear science research.

The main advantages of a Maximus Energy Neutron-X detector over a conventional neutron detector are:

  1. Greatly improved resistance to electromagnetic interference. Ground loops and radiofrequency emissions may introduce spurious pulses into conventional neutron detectors, thereby distorting spectra and affecting counts. Neutron-X detectors employ balanced signaling, which greatly alleviates, and in many cases completely eliminates, this problem.
  2. High magnitude of the output signal. A built-in balanced preamplifier and a separate (remote) balun amplifier allow for long detector cabling without degrading the signal-to-noise ratio.
  3. The built-in HV bias supply eliminates the need for expensive high-voltage power supplies, allowing the Neutron-X detector to be used with an inexpensive Pico-MCA digital pulse processor.

Maximus Energy 3He Neutron-X Detector is compatible with most MCA/DPP systems. To build a complete neutron spectrometer, connect the detector to a Pico-MCA and use the PulseCounter Pro spectroscopy software to acquire a neutron spectrum and counts.

Installation

  1. Connect the balun receiver’s signal output (SMA connector) to a DPP/MCA’s input using a short patch cable or an adapter.
  2. Connect the detector to the balun amplifier using a USB-C cable. This cable can be of arbitrary length, as the detector can be positioned at a significant distance from the balun receiver-DPP/MCA system.
  3. Connect a +5VDC power (5V USB-C connector) to the balun receiver to energize the NeutronX detector.
